No Other Way Out

Isaiah 42:16: “And I will lead the blind

in a way that they do not know,
in paths that they have not known
I will guide them.
I will turn the darkness before them into light,
the rough places into level ground.
These are the things I do,
and I do not forsake them.”

Calvin: “It is often advantageous to us also to have no way open to us, to be straitened and hemmed in on every hand, and even to be blinded, that we may learn to depend solely on God’s assistance and to rely on him; for, so long as a plank is left on which we think that we can seize, we turn to it with our whole heart.”

Assertiveness and “taking the bull by the horns” is a good thing, even a godly thing. But the Lord is our hope, and when he is our only hope, then we are in the best place.
