Snow, Chili, and House Churches

The school where our church meets was in bad shape yesterday, so our main Sunday service was canceled.

Our community group got together for a hot chili lunch. We talked, hung out, watched Xtreme 4×4 (we were at Alex and Courtney’s house, and Alex is president of a four wheeling club in Louisville), and I shared some brief thoughts on the metaphor of snow in the Bible. We broke cornbread and drank Kool-Aid, and basically shared life together.

I am by no means on the house church bandwagon (if there is a bandwagon). I think that the North American way of doing church is basically fine and that God will continue to use it into the foreseeable future. Still, I can see some of the appeal of the whole house church thing. Because, mostly, yesterday helped me see again the importance of smaller pockets of community for God’s people.
