A Picture

Where will we be in ten years and in fifty?

We’ve talked, together,

       about having kids and adopting

       about planting a church

       about, mostly, listening to God’s Spirit’s direction.

So I’ve been trying to write

a picture on paper,

A picture of us

both for now, and for then.

And honesty mandates that I make a confession:

that where we will be,

or what we’ll be doing,

I can’t say for certain;

that picture hasn’t yet been brought into focus.

But the confident picture I can write you is this,

the picture prescribed by God’s Holy Breathing:

              self-dying love,

              a picture of Jesus.

The picture of us being ever more closely drawn

in His image;

in the decades to come,

that is my vision.
